Edith Smith Tucker

November 1, 1930 — January 22, 2014

Edith Tucker, 83, of Midlothian went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, A. P. Tucker, Jr.; three children, Pete Tucker and wife Peggy, Pat Chafin and husband Jamie, Pam Edwards and Danny Dinsmore. Edith was a devoted and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, John McKenna, Ryan Edwards, Amber Towler, Tony Edwards, Alison Kent, Christopher Chafin, and Alex Higuchi. Born in Summers County, West Virginia, Edith came from a large family of 15 children, all of whom have preceded her in death except her sister Kate Nichols and her husband Wyndell, and her brother Jesse Smith and wife Elizabeth. Edith had numerous nieces and nephews who loved her very much. Edith was a R.N., graduating from C & O Hospital in Clifton Forge, Virginia. She worked in several hospitals and retired after 18 years of service from St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond. Edith was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church and taught Sunday school and was involved in many youth activities for the church. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2014, 6 to 8 PM at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway(Rt.60), Powhatan. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 1100 Huguenot Springs Road, Midlothian. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Virginia Foundation.
