December 18, 1948 — January 14, 2022

On January 14, 2022, at 8 pm, John William Tate, known to friends and family as "Henry" went to be with our Lord, Jesus. He was best known for his mild-mannered personality and wonderful laugh. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Seaver Tate. Also survived by his two daughters, Denise Tate Durrette (Clay) and Danielle Tate Spence (Jason). He leaves behind his stepsons Rick Seaver (Dawn) and Chris Seaver (Laurie) and his stepdaughter Kimberly Moore (Curtis). Henry was Paw-Paw to Trey Durrette, Meghan Kiser, Brandon Durrette, Mary Durrette, Brianna Spence and Noah Spence. Also, a great-grand son, Henry Durrette. He was Pee-Paw or Grandpa Henry to Jessica Seaver, Rick Seaver,III, Tiffany Johnson, Dakota Seaver, Haley Blackwell, John Stockner, Dawson Seaver, Olivia Seaver, Jenna Maynard, Evelyn Seaver, Jaydah Seaver, a multitude of great grandchildren and one sister Kay Lamb.
Henry was a bright light to all those who knew him. He worked in the commercial pest control industry for most of his life and enjoyed music (he was a drummer in his younger years) and traveling with his wife Betty. They found love in one another after losing their spouses and made their home in Cumberland, Virginia for the previous twenty-one years. His faith was evident, his good and selfless nature was greatly cherished, and he will truly be missed by all those whose lives he touched throughout the years.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home.
A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
