Joseph R. Sims, 81, of Va. Beach, known by his friends as Jerry, went to his Heavenly home on April 23, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverley Mitchell Sims; daughters, Annette Ceresley of Cumberland, Veronica Branham, of Glen Allen, Melanie Smith of Kansas; son, Joseph (Rick) Sims; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jerry was instrumental in developing the Old Dominion Girls Softball League and creating the Hunton Softball fields, in Glen Allen, VA. He coached girls’ softball in Glen Allen, for over 20 years. A celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date. Online condolences may be made at bennettbardenfh.com
