Alvin L. Bethel, Jr, 91, of Powhatan went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on November 2, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dee Bethel. He is survived by his son, Alvin Bethel, III (Terri) and two daughters, Karen Longworth (Brad) and Deann Lopez (Rick). He also leaves behind six grandchildren - Chandler (Brandon), Landon, Shannon, Beau, Christopher, Nicholas - and one great grandchild, Tripp.
Alvin grew up in Richmond spending weekends and summers in Powhatan with family. He worked as a retail accountant for over 20 years at Miller & Rhoads and then several other Richmond retailers.
Alvin loved walking through the woods with his beloved dogs hunting turkeys. He shared his love of fishing with everyone who would go with him to Powhatan Lakes and Amelia Wildlife. He was an avid reader and knew more baseball stats than anyone wanted to hear starting with his favorite team, the New York Yankees from the 1940s.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 15th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 18100 Genito Rd. Moseley, VA 23120.
