Andrew Ryan "Drew"

Andrew Ryan “Drew” Philhower, 25, of Richmond, Virginia, died in a motorcycle accident on October 25, 2026.
Drew was a talented craftsman, a gifted athlete, and a creative young man with a remarkable imagination, a curious mind, and a strong sense of independence.
A carpenter by trade, Drew had a natural eye for detail and design. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether building something from wood, drawing, painting, or bringing one of his many ideas to life. His creativity began at an early age, when he made his own bows and arrows, swords, and even a lightsaber.
Drew was also an exceptional athlete. He earned a black belt in Taekwondo as a child and went on to become a two-time state champion and three-time New Balance Nationals qualifier in pole vaulting during high school. Despite his accomplishments, he was never one to seek attention or praise. He preferred to let his work and abilities speak for themselves.
Drew possessed a quiet spiritual and intellectual depth that was not always apparent to those around him. Thoughtful and introspective, he considered life's larger questions from many perspectives. Reserved by nature, he kept much of his inner world to himself.
A 2020 graduate of Benedictine College Preparatory, where he served as an officer, Drew valued the friendships and experiences that shaped his years there. His time at Benedictine also influenced his interest in faith, which he continued to explore privately.
He had a special fondness for animals, particularly the unusual ones. Over the years, his companions included a cat, axolotls, ducks, and a ferret. He even entertained the idea of someday owning an emu.
Drew approached life with curiosity and determination. He enjoyed the challenge of figuring things out for himself, experimenting with new ideas, and learning through experience. He was a private person who valued his family and a small circle of close friends.
Drew is survived by his parents, Michael and Rene Philhower; his siblings, Karis Wells, Dr. Madison Philhower, and Aaron Philhower; his grandparents, Robert Philhower and his wife, Francine Allaire, and Phillip and Linda Theis; and his aunts and uncles, Robert Philhower Jr., Laurie and Fred Scarbrough, William Philhower, and Ryan and Katie Theis.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Sandra Philhower and Connie Strassburg.
A celebration of Drew's life will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Seven Hills School, 1311 Overbrook Road, Richmond, Virginia 23220.
Seven Hills held a special place in Drew's heart. It was a place where he could simply be a boy—spending time outdoors, exploring his interests, and discovering the joy of learning. His family can think of no more fitting place to gather in his memory.
A reception will follow the service. All who knew Drew, or wish to support his family, are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seven Hills School in Drew's memory.
Drew was deeply loved, and his absence will be felt beyond words.
