Betty Jo Maney, 86, of Cumberland, VA, went to be with Jesus on March 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Her Savior was the focus of her life followed by her husband, Charlie, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage and a life rich in faith, family, love, and purpose.
Betty was born in 1939 to William and Virginia Price in Cambria, Virginia. She shared her childhood with three younger brothers: William “Bill”, Richard “Poochie”, and Steve.
Those who loved her, knew her by many names: “Betty Jo” to her friends, “Sis” to her brothers, “Betty Boop” to her husband Charlie, “Mom”, and “Momma Jo” to her children and the many she mothered, and perhaps the dearest name, “Nana” to her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her beloved children Karen Elswick (R.K.), Rusty Maney (Christie), and Nicole Maney. Her grandchildren brought her joy: Ron (Trey) Elswick (Linda), Amanda E. Gentry (Taylor), Charlie Elswick (Jayme), Jack Elswick, Evan Bennett, Elijah Maney, Isabella Maney and pup Finn Robinson. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren: Rosie Elswick and Eliza Elswick.
Nana built a legacy of love and family, including special memories with her grandchildren, teaching them to cook, enjoying sunny days at the beach, and celebrating the joy of Christmas and the birth of Jesus. Betty’s compassionate heart opened her home and her table for fellowship, food, and ministry to her friends, neighbors, church family, and innumerable college students from the Coffeehouse ministry. Through her numerous careers as a Christian bookstore owner, real estate agent/broker, pastor’s wife, and log home enthusiast, her favorite role was always that of host to those she loved.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Shiloh New Covenant Church, 665 Anderson Hwy, Cumberland, VA. Family will receive friends between 12:00 and 2:00 pm and invite everyone to a service and fellowship directly thereafter.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Betty’s memory may make a contribution to a cause dear to her heart, La Casa de mi Padre (The House of My Father), a children’s home in El Salvador (online at https://mfh-elsalvador.org/give-to-la-casa/) or the Gideon’s International to spread the Gospel of Jesus (online at https://gideons.org/donate).
