Obituary

Bobby Joe "Bob" Weatherford, 82, of Powhatan, Virginia, went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026.

Bob was born on June 26, 1943, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He joined the United States Army in 1960, serving at Camp Casey in Korea. Afterward, Bob returned stateside to Richmond, Virginia, where he met the love of his life, Jean, his devoted wife of 56 years.

Bob was a faithful member of Graceland Baptist Church and enjoyed spreading the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with others. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and was loved and admired by many. Bob was an active member of Midlothian Lodge 211, the Scottish Rite, Manchester Chapter 53 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of American Legion Post 0201. He loved the peacefulness of gospel and bluegrass music. He always found time to enjoy the love and laughter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob worked in steel construction for most of his life and was the owner of B & J Steel Construction Inc. for nearly 40 years.Bob was an example of a man driven by purpose and his faith in God. Though he had a tough exterior, his heart was made of gold. Never forgetting his humble Kentucky roots, he never hesitated to give his everything to those in need.

Bob's legacy will live on forever through the many stories he shared and the memories of those who had the opportunity to know him. Bob will be remembered for his quick wit and his ability to turn the "junk" he always had lying about into something purposeful for others. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Collier; and his brother, James Weatherford Sr.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Pembelton Weatherford; daughters, Sheffie Weatherford and Sheri Deatherage (Nicholas); sister, Linda Stokes; grandchildren, Kristopher Seamster (Katie), Zachary Seamster, Christian Provost (Jayne), Jason Deatherage, and Lucy Deatherage; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kayden, and Karson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dearest mini dachshund, CoCo.The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026 1:00 pm in the Graceland Baptist Church. Interment church cemetery.
