Charlie Doyal Akins

Charlie Doyal Akins, born December 11, 1945 in Pickins County, GA., died February 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Doyal Akins and Willie Jones Mell. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Quintard Ashby Akins; children, C. Shepherd Akins (Shannon), John J. Akins (Angie), Catherine (Katie) Bredemeier (Dennis); grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Akins, Camden J. Painter, Christina and Charlie Bredemeier and Shelby A. Akins; step-grandchildren, Hannah, Ryan and Brendan; great-grandson's, Saylor and Daniel. 

He was the leader of Boy Scout Troop #889 of Powhatan. Charlie worked for Powhatan Correctional Center as an Corrections electrician and The State Parks as an Inspector. He was retired from th VA National Guard as a Major in the Corp of Engineers, 28th Brigade. He was a member of the Old Man's Coffee Club, as well as the Fine Creek Men's Club.  

A Visitation will be held at The Bennett & Barden Funeral Home on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 4-6:00 PM. A service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, or Plant a Tree.
