Doris Clayton Poore Drinkard

Doris Clayton Poore Drinkard, 93, went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father, Loye Clayton Poore; her mother, Lula Brinkley Poore; her son, Walter Patterson (Pat) Drinkard, III; and her brother, David Eugene Poore. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathy Colley (Dee); daughter-in-law, Jeanne Everett; sister, Evelyn Mayo (Howard); 5 grandchildren, Walter Patterson (Pat) Drinkard IV (Kenda), Dana Gravley Wood (Charles), Stephen D. Gravley (Leea), Caroline Everett, and Matthew G. Drinkard; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Doris was given the middle name “Clayton” because her mother had such a difficult time during her birth that her father declared there would be no more children and gave her the family name. Of course, two more children followed, her brother David was not happy that Doris had been the one to receive the family name. 

She dedicated 32 years of service to Central National Bank in Richmond, a place fondly remembered for its iconic neon initials “CNB” that lit up the downtown skyline. Over the years, the bank changed names many times, later becoming Wells Fargo. Faith and service were central to Doris’s life. She was a member of Holly Hills Baptist Church and served as treasurer of Fellowship Baptist Church. She volunteered with the Powhatan Clothes Closet and the Christmas Mother program in Powhatan, and she was active in several community organizations including the Dogwood Bells Ladies Club and the Powhatan Women’s Club. Doris also worked at the Powhatan Pharmacy, where she enjoyed connecting with her community. 

Doris will be remembered for her generosity, her faith, and her unwavering love for family and community.

The family will received friends on Friday,  August 22, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home. Where a service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 am. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery. Condolences can be made at bennettbardenfh.com.
