Douglas Edward Nevius

Douglas Edward Nevius, 61, of Powhatan, VA passed away on November 19, 2025, at his home.

Doug was born in Dauphin County, PA, the son of Vincent and Barbara (Becker) Nevius. He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in MD on June 7, 1982, and went on to complete classes and training to be a Firefighter through the University of Maryland National Fire Academy and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Doug always wanted to be involved in firefighting and was a volunteer at various fire departments in Mechanicsburg, PA; Hagerstown, MD; Chesterfield, VA; and Fine Creek Company 4 in Powhatan, VA. In 2014, He retired from Chesterfield County as a professional firefighter with 30 years of service. He enjoyed helping others where he could, including cooking and bringing food to people in times of need and in general, as well as working holidays so that others could be home with their families. He also enjoyed the outdoors while hunting, cutting firewood, and working on various projects in his shop.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Brooke Renee Nevius; mother, Barbara Anne (Becker) Nevius; brother, Gregory Bryan Nevius; brother; Bryan Edward Nevius; sister-in-law Amanda (Mandy) Brooke Morris Nevius; niece, Elizabeth Grace Nevius; and nephew, Vincent Eugene Nevius.

Doug is preceded in death by his father; Vincent Edward Nevius.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA 23139. The family will receive guests for visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Chesterfield or Powhatan Fire Departments.
