Eugene Burton Moyer, 95, of Powhatan, Virginia peacefully passed away in his home on July 27, 2025. He has gone to join his wife of over 60 years, Shirley, who preceded him in death on August 19, 2022.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Moyer (Kim); daughter, Tracy Brandon; his four Grandchildren Travis, Taylor, Tanner and Trent; as well as many other extended family members.
Gene was the fifth child born to the late Wallace and Nelly Moyer on October 22, 1929, at his home place known as Edge Hill Farm. He was raised here with his four older sisters Elizabeth, Nellie Mae, Gertrude Laura and his younger brother "Bo". In 1950, Gene entered the service as a Seabee, served two years in Guam, later arriving to Korea in 1953. He enjoyed sharing stories of his time spent in Korea. In 1966, Gene went into business with his partner Bob Reames to start Reames and Moyer Inc., He was a master plumber, until he retired January 1, 1996. Throughout his life, he enjoyed taking care of the farm and would always host family reunions and church picnics there. He was an avid rabbit hunter and never missed a Nascar race. After he retired, Gene then returned back to his homeplace on Edgehill Farm with his devoted wife, Shirley. He actively worked in the fields and took care of his animals until he was 94. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends. From 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. Powhatan, VA. Also, where services will be held Wednesday 11 AM. Interment Genito Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Calvary Methodist Church, 1637 Williamsburg Rd. Richmond, Virginia 23231.
