Fred Sidney Hunt III of Carson VA (Oct 4, 1945 – September 10, 2025) passed away on Wednesday September 10 in hospice care with his loved ones at his bedside.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Sandra W. Hunt; his son John B. Hunt (Michelle); his grandson Zachary Hunt; niece Robin Orndorff (Gary), and nephew Matthew Ritter. Fred was preceded in death by his father Fred Sidney Hunt Jr, and mother Dorothy Fulp Hunt, and sister Ann Hunt Ritter.
Fred was a 1964 graduate of Handley HS in Winchester VA and later relocated to Richmond VA with his family.
After graduating Valedictorian from VCU Business School, Fred attended TC Williams School of Law at University of Richmond where he earned his law degree.
Fred’s legal career began in criminal defense and civil law, and in later years spanned to a role as criminal prosecutor. After retiring from the legal profession, Fred took a role as General Manager in the Wauford Group until his eventual retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, Fred loved hunting and fishing and was an active wildlife conservationist with memberships in Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation and was a hunting safety instructor. He loved educating and sharing his extensive knowledge of nature with others. His lifelong passion was railroading and in particular his love of model railroading, which he continued from childhood until his passing. Fred was also a creative man with many artistic talents, as well as a lifelong love for music. A passionate sports fan, he enjoyed many successes coaching youth baseball and football and always appreciated the opportunity to mentor and shape young men’s lives.
An eternal prankster, Fred was known for his offbeat sense of humor, and kidding around with those he loved most.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bristol Hospice of Richmond. A private celebration of life with family and friends is planned for a future date.
