Gene Douglas Utley

Gene Douglas Utley, of Powhatan, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00pm, Tuesday, January 17th at Bennett and Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA 23139.

Gene was born on July 13, 1946 to the late Richard C. Utley and Blanche Webb Hamilton.  He graduated from Huguenot Academy in Powhatan, VA in 1964.  As a child he loved spending his time on the family farm and as he grew older he found a love for racing dirt bikes, flying airplanes, Nascar/Drag Racing and attending car shows.  He was employed by Hutcheson and Company, Inc. selling electrical material and was a very successful sales representative earning many prestigious awards for his hardwork and dedication.  Once he retired, most of his spare time was spent "tinkering" with his tractor around the family farm.  

Gene thoroughly loved spending time with friends and family, especially his two grandsons that he adored immensely.   He was a true gentleman, with a kind and loving heart.  He always wore a smile on his face and was a friend to everyone he met.  

His life will be forever cherished by his son, Richard, daughter-in-law Meredith and his two grandsons, Gavin and Tucker.  The family is at peace knowing that he is now reunited with his loving parents and friends that have passed on.
