Grace Clements Ganiard, 96, of Powhatan, received her angel wings on January 1, 2026.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Ganiard. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon McGough (Michael) of Powhatan, son David Ganiard (Karen), step-grandson Drew Hicks of Montpelier, brother Donald Clements of Lima, NY, AFS daughter Eed Cefkin (Jon) of Denver, CO and many nieces and nephews who adored her. A special place is held for hospice caregivers Laura, Josie, Madison, neighbor Nora, and Y instructor Wendy.
In 1990, Grace and Ralph retired to Powhatan from LeRoy, NY to be closer to their children. Grace would always make sure that any new friend she met learned that LeRoy was where Jello was invented. She was a big Buffalo Bills fan. Grace and her husband also loved to camp.
Grace would continue her well known volunteer work and highly regarded sewing abilities in Western NY when she moved to Powhatan. She was a member of Cooperative Extension for over 25 years and started the So-Sew 4-H Club in Powhatan. She was a member of Friends of the Library where she volunteered many hours. She also was a member of a local quilt club sewing quilts for the NICU babies at Johnston-Willis Hospital and overnight quilt bags for mothers at risk. She attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church helping with the bazaar. She especially enjoyed attending, into her 90’s, the Powhatan Y senior classes and seeing all her friends.
A private interment for family will be held at the Amelia Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made in memory to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805 or the Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA, 2269 Mann Rd, Powhatan, VA 23139.
