Helen Ross Burkholder

Helen Ross Burkholder, 96, of Powhatan, VA, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1929, in Elida, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lewis A Burkholder, Jr.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ross and Clara Good Ross; brothers, Laverne Ross, Myron Ross, Wilfred Ross, Stanley Ross; and sister-in-law, Irene Ross.

She is survived by her children David Burkholder (Ruby), Norman Burkholder, Beverly Kennell (Tim), Steven Burkholder (Connie); grandchildren Jon Burkholder (Allison), Diana Burkholder, Renel Carter (Joe), Melissa Burkholder, Kayley Tice (Travis), and Kara Burkholder; great grandchildren Arlo and Finn Carter, Emery and Isla Tice.

She is survived by her siblings Dean Ross, Charlie Ross (Charlotte), Gloria Flagg (Gene) and sister-in-law Leona Ross. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Helen was a well-loved pastor’s wife, gifted in oil painting, flower arranging, sewing, cooking, and hospitality. She also greatly enjoyed traveling. She expressed her love for God through her kindness and compassionate care for others. For many years, she faithfully visited women in prison and led Bible studies, sharing hope and encouragement with those who needed it most.

A funeral service will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 4:30pm at Powhatan Mennonite Church, 3540 Old Buckingham Rd, Powhatan, VA 23139. A viewing will be held at the same location starting at 3:30pm. A graveside service will be held immediately after the church service with a meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her memory to Global Disciples, 315 W James St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
