Henry Oscar Powers, 82, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, after a hard yet brief fight with pneumonia. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathryn C. Powers of 57 years and survived by his two girls, Stephanie Ross of Raleigh, NC and Melissa Moates of Harlem, GA (Ken Moates); He also leaves behind his grandson, Bobby Ross of Raleigh, NC; along with his older brother, Ray Powers of N. Chesterfield, VA; and too many nieces and nephews to count.
Some called him Henry; others called him Oscar. The only thing he cared about was that you didn't call him late for supper!! That sense of humor and caring nature will be greatly missed.
Henry, as he preferred lately, was a member of the 25th Army Infantry Division during the Vietnam War and was deployed in 1966. He was a proud patriot who earned the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He loved to talk about his time overseas to anyone who'd listened.
Henry was very proud of his yard and always kept it trimmed and pruned. There were few days that you would not catch him outside "working in the yard". He also enjoyed "tinkering" in his workshop where he could make just about anything you could dream of out of wood.
Henry was quiet but will leave a very strong presence for all that knew him. As he always would say, "Life goes on".
The family asks in lieu of flowers, that a donation in his memory go towards a military cause of your choosing.
