James Douglas Kidwell

James Douglas "Doug" Kidwell, 82 of Chesapeake, Virginia, a very loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather passed away on September 19, 2024. Born in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late James and Evelyn Kidwell. He was also proceeded in death by his wife Shirley of 52 years, his sisters Joan, Brenda and his brother Rick.

Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Katherine, Patricia and her husband David, Christine and her husband Robbie, Belinda and her husband Chris, James and his wife Dorothy; brothers Tim, Kent and his wife Dottie; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Doug was a dedicated public servant with the City of Virginia Beach for 33 years. He served in the United States Coast Guard, FEMA Virginia Task Force II and was deployed to the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 as a First Responder as well as many other deployments. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday 12pm - 2pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home 3215 Anderson Hwy Powhatan, Va. 23139, where services will be held at 2pm. Interment, Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery, Powhatan, VA.
