Obituary

Moore, Jason "Elmo", of Farmville, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 22, 2026. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Melvin C. Moore; his grandmother, Evelyn H. Moore; and his mother, Janice M. Moore. He is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine Hollister Moore; his three children: Jefferson, Katherine "Elizabeth", and Fredrick Moore; and brother, Chris Moore.Born July 3, 1975, he was a graduate of Powhatan High School, University of Virginia and the University of Richmond School of Law. During his high school years, he was known as a great football player; receiving recognition as an all state offensive lineman and being captain of the team his senior year. Excelling in academics, he was a member of the Battle of the Brains and was an ACE team social studies champ.Jason served Powhatan County as an elected official for sixteen years; first serving on the School Board of Powhatan and then the Board of Supervisors. In 2001, he was a recipient of the prestigious Patrick Henry award by Governor Jim Gilmore. He began his practice of law as a general practitioner before serving as a prosecutor in the counties of Dinwiddie and Brunswick Counties. For twenty-five years, he was a respected member of the bar and made many friends among his colleagues. As a proclaimed savant, Jason was an avid reader-always reading and researching. He filled his home library with all of his read books. As a self-taught genealogist, he researched his family and his wife's lineage back to the 17th century. As an avid historian and civil war enthusiast, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and still learning about history. He was a former member of the Civil War roundtable in Powhatan, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Sons of the American Revolution. During the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Jason wrote articles for the local paper. As a contributor to the opinion section, he won an award from the Richmond Times Dispatch for his opinion piece. As a fan of the Washington Redskins, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and UVA Cavaliers, he enjoyed watching games and bragging about their wins. He was a talented storyteller and loved to debate on various topics. He loved his show tunes and was known to break out in songs like "Camelot." Known for hosting grand parties, Jason loved to entertain friends and family with his cooking. But most of all, Jason is remembered as a loving and caring husband and father to his family. With his wife, he traveled the world, from Hawaii and Alaska to the British Isles, the Caribbean, the Baltic, Europe, Russia, Turkey, Israel and Egypt. He loved to go to historical sites with his family, especially battlefields and historical homes. He cared for his family by his actions from coaching flag football, sharing his knowledge of history, politics and sports, cooking for his family, going to doctor appointments, giving a ride to activities, and teaching them all about Star Trek and wrestling. For him, it was serving others and sharing knowledge about a variety of topics. He will be missed beyond measure. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 pm -7pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Friday 11am, in Mount Hermon Baptist Church, Interment Graceland Baptist Church.
