Jean "Carol" Dickerson Lawson

August 11, 1959 — March 7, 2026

Powhatan

Jean "Carol" Dickerson Lawson of Powhatan, VA was born in Farmville, VA on August 11, 1959 and passed away on March 7, 2026 at the age of 66.

She was the daughter of the late Charles "Charlie" Dickerson and Mary Belle Elam Dickerson. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Dickerson and husband, Jeffrey "Steve" Lawson.

Carol worked in the banking and mortgage business for over 43 years. She was a faithful attendee at Gospel Light Baptist Church where she would go every Sunday when she was home, but if she wasn't there you could count on her being in church somewhere, probably with a gospel group singing. She served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and church clerk at Red Lane Baptist Church, where she along with her parents and brother began attending back in the late 70's when they moved to Powhatan. She had a love for music across a variety of genres, but her favorite music to listen to was Southern Gospel Music. She was a promoter for Southern Gospel Music across Virginia and would travel many miles to attend concerts. As the saying goes "No grass grew under her wheels." You could always count on her to know who was going to be singing in town each week. So much so that Carol was known by many for the "Carol's Concert Schedule" that she sent out weekly. She was also a radio DJ in the Richmond area for several years at WXGI hosting the "Sunday Morning Gospel Show" and WLEE airing hours of Southern Gospel Music.

She loved to travel to the mountains or the beach for vacation, and those trips likely included some concerts along the way. She was known by many for the home-cooked meals she would make, especially her spaghetti. She always loved spending time with her family and making memories together, but especially her pride and joy, her two grandkids that she would constantly be buying "goodies" for.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Amanda "Mandy" Lawson Grubbs (Michael) and Rachel Lawson; her grandchildren, Matthew and Maelynn Grubbs; her stepfather, Gary Dunfee; and numerous cousins, family members, and close friends.
