Jean Harlow Richardson, 88, of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home under hospice care on August 9, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born January 17,1938, in Waynesboro, Virginia, a place that always held special meaning, Jean devoted her life to caring for others. She began her career with DuPont in Waynesboro in 1959, retiring in 1992, and later spent ten additional years with the Virginia State Police. She is preceded in death by her daughter Judy Richardson Whitby; her parents Myrtle and Joseph Harlow, Sr.; her brothers George, Harry, Robert, Jimmy, and Joseph, Jr.; her sister Leona; and her loving partner Jerry E. Brewer.Jean is survived by her daughter Kathy Carr and granddaughter Morgan Carr, who lovingly cared for her; her son‑in‑law Kevin Carr; her grandson Derek Whitby (Sara) and great‑grandchildren Delaney and Dakoda; and her daughter Teresa Diggs (Bray) and their children Brad and Kaitlyn. She is also survived by her brother Dennis Harlow (Sun), Sister-in-law Hilda Harlow, and niece Connie Critzer.Jean was tenderly cared for at home by Kathy and Morgan, with Ruby, the family dog, becoming Jean’s devoted protector from the day she moved into their home five years ago.The family extends heartfelt thanks to Crater Hospice, especially her nurse Jenn, and to the many dear friends who sat with Jean, known lovingly as Nanny Jean or Mama Jean. Your kindness, time, and support meant more than words can express.Her celebration of life will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
