Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Jeffrey Eugene Showalter (born December 6, 1961) who left this world on May 10,2026 to go home, leaving behind a family who loved him beyond words.

He was a practical and loving Husband, Dad, and Pappy whose life was built on hard work, compassion, and deep love for his friends and family. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by the people he loved. He worked tirelessly for the Power and Energy industry throughout his 30-year+ career providing the resources necessary to refurbish steam turbines. He was a motorcycle and camping enthusiast, taking yearly trips with friends covering every contiguous state, and he was a licensed Amateur (Ham) Radio operator sharing his hobby with family and friends.

He gave so much of himself to make sure his wife and family felt secure, supported, and deeply loved. He believed that marriage was built on loyalty, patience, and choosing each other every day.

He also lived with quiet strength. Even through difficult seasons, he met life with determination and grace. He reminded us that resilience does not need to be loud to be powerful.

Although his retirement dream of becoming a cattle Farmer gave him purpose and brought him immense joy that he could share with family and friends, in Autumn of 2023, Jeff was diagnosed with stage IV Prostate cancer that had already metastasized to his bones from head to toe. His Faith kept him strong during the 2+ year battle in the fight against cancer. His wife supported him throughout the journey and shared the Faith and Hope that cancer is not the end, believing what our Lord Jesus Christ preached to his disciples as noted by Paul in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Thus Jeff's mantra, "In it to Win it!", echoing that true joy comes from Jesus Christ alone.

Jeff was passionately instrumental in starting a ministry at Chesterfield Baptist Church in Moseley, VA in partnership with VCU Massey Cancer Center to educate and raise awareness on the importance of early detection and to remove barriers of cancer screenings. He was determined to help the Richmond and surrounding communities through this established partnered ministry by providing free or reduced-cost screenings for several types of preventable cancers including prostate, colon, and breast, to name a few.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and many dear friends who will carry his lessons and his love with them always. Though he is gone from our sight, he remains part of every family story, every shared tradition, and every act of kindness inspired by his example.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon, and his parents, Don and Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the growth of this important cancer screening ministry continuing Jeff's mission of advocacy and early detection. Donations can be sent to Chesterfield Baptist Church c/o CBC CAT, 16520 Hull Street Rd, Moseley, VA 23120.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Chesterfield Baptist on June 20, 2026 at 1 pm.
