Jeffrey Sheppard Winall, age 52, of Powhatan, VA, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025. Jeff is survived by his father, Gary Winall (Ellen); his mother, Elizabeth Chambers (Bob); his brother, Jason Winall (Jessica); his daughter, Jordan; his son, William; his niece, Madalyn; along with many extended family members and cherished friends.
Jeff battled against an aggressive form of prostate cancer for the past year. Throughout this challenging battle, with many surgeries, he exhibited tremendous courage and bravery to the very end. Never losing that sense of humor he had or the chance to make you laugh.
Many will remember Jeff from the construction world as he spent his years working for the family company, Gary S Winall Contractors. From being a framer in the field, to running jobs alongside his brother, to eventually running the company; Jeff has built many buildings and even though the days could be long and frustrating, he always took it in stride.
If not, then you would know Jeff to be out hunting or fishing. From being on the river all night for a catfish tournament, calling a turkey on the opening day of spring gobbler season, in a sunflower field on the opening day of dove season or in countless tree stands during deer season; he was always enjoying the hunt. And not only for just wildlife, but Jeff was also big into coon hunting at one point where he was awarded many trophies and was a member of the Goochland Coolhunter’s Association.
In his younger years, Jeff grew up going to bird dog field trials with his father and was a great scout. He also set a horse like he was part of the horse and rode them like the wind. This riding experience was probably the start to his tenure as a bull rider back in the day.
During his battle with cancer, Jeff made his wishes very clear: when his time on Earth was through, he did not want a funeral filled with sorrow. Instead, he requested that his family and friends celebrate his life with joy and laughter, once they had time to grieve. In honor of these wishes, a memorial service will be held at some point in the future when the family sees it fit to honor him in just the way he would like.
Until then, we are encouraged to remember Jeff's spirit by living fully and embracing life one sunrise at a time. Let us cherish each moment and pursue our dreams, for life is too short, and none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.
Jeff will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but may he remain in our hearts forever.
