Kay Carhart

February 2, 1957 — March 3, 2023

Powhatan

Kay Carhart, 66, of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023 after a long battle with early-onset Alzheimer's.

Kay is survived by her devoted friend, Janice Roberson, who cared for her in their home until her death, her sister, Laura Parker of Chesterfield, niece Corinne Barnes, nephews Nicholas Morgan and Hunter Morgan, great nephew Everett Barnes and great niece Berkley Barnes. She was predeceased by parents Norma and Linwood Carhart of Stuart, Florida.

Kay retired from Coleman Brothers Flowers in 2015, where she furthered her knowledge of plants, one of her many passions.

Kay was a devoted member of the Christadelphian Church where she made lifelong friends and served in many capacities over the years, including counselor at the Christadelphian Youth Camp in Chase City, Virginia. She attended many Bible Schools in states across the U.S. and in other countries.

An avid sportswoman, Kay enjoyed golf, racquet sports and softball and participated in a basketball league with friends for 30 years. She actively followed women's basketball, attending games with Janice and friends whenever possible.

Kay was genuine, fun-loving and quick to laugh. She was considerate and thoughtful beyond measure. Kay's love was all-encompassing of humanity and nature. She was a friend to all and never met a stranger. She made deep and lasting friendships wherever she went. She befriended the homeless and friendless and took in stray animals. Kay always considered herself fortunate in life, even throughout her illness, and wanted to lift others up who were in difficult circumstances.

While Kay loved all animals, she particularly loved her dogs Abbie, Rainy and Cricket, upon whom she doted.

Kay enjoyed the outdoors, walking or biking to work when distance and weather permitted, and loved taking long walks or hikes with friends and family. Kay was well-traveled, having visited 44 states and perhaps 12 countries in her lifetime.

We will greatly miss Kay's role in our lives and are sad for the long illness she had to endure.

A celebration of Kay's life will be held at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception following at the residence, 1849 High Hill Drive Powhatan, VA 23139
