Obituary

On June 19, 2026, Kenneth “Ken” Earl Bailey passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 80.

Born in Charlotte County, Virginia, Ken later moved to and established deep roots in the Powhatan and Chesterfield communities. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Family was paramount to Ken. He shared many happy years with his loving wife, Karen Bailey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Bailey. Ken was the proud father of daughters Karen Bailey Alexander (Josh) and Kristi Zdawczyk (Bryant), and devoted stepfather to Erin Hagedorn (Ryan) and Sara Jonckheere (Brandon). Together, Ken and Karen were blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren: Harper Gordon; Avery and Art Alexander; Eliot and Carter Surprise; and Oliver and Mila Jonckheere.

Ken was a compassionate and dedicated employee of the Commonwealth of Virginia for more than 56 years. He served as Certification Manager for the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and remained committed to his work until the day he passed. Fiercely devoted to public service, Ken provided invaluable guidance and support to countless colleagues and professionals throughout his career. In 2013, he received the Career Achievement Award, which was personally presented by the Governor of Virginia in recognition of his outstanding service.

At his core, Ken was a devoted family man who consistently went above and beyond for those he loved. He will be remembered for his silly jokes, steadfast determination, warmth, humility, and unwavering generosity.

In keeping with Ken’s wishes and humble nature, no funeral or memorial service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an organization of your choice in honor of Ken’s charitable spirit.

Ken will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him.
