Kenneth Wayne Franklin, Sr.

June 27, 1947 — November 27, 2023

Powhatan

Kenneth Wayne Franklin Sr., affectionately known as "Pops," passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023, at the age of 76. Born on June 27, 1947, in Virginia, he was the treasured son of the late Leola Mae Hensley Franklin and Joseph Charles Franklin. His brothers Henry Preston Franklin Sr. and Nelson Edward Hawkins (Red), along with his sisters Bertie Franklin Wood and Susan Harkins Brame, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Jean Franklin; his daughter, Leslie Franklin Landess; his son, Kenneth Wayne Franklin Jr. (Ken); his beloved grandchildren, David Glen Landess III (Trey) and Taylor Marie Landess (Marissa); his brothers, Joseph Harvey Franklin (Pat) and Albert Lewis Franklin (Sherri); and his sister, Anita Harkins Proffitt (Robbie) as well as his close friend and Uncle John Hensley (Annette) along with several loved nieces and nephews.

Kenneth retired from Bass Construction as a Superintendent after over 24 years. In his later years, he took immense pride in working as the shop foreman for Eagle Medical Transports & LifeCare Medical Transports, contributing his vast experience and wisdom.

His voluntary service spanned over 40 years with the Powhatan County Fire Department - Macon District Volunteer Station #3 and the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, showcasing his dedication to community service.

Kenneth was a loving husband, an amazing father, a mentor, and a friend to many. He found great joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, fishing with his nephews, watching professional wrestling, and working on small engines. His humor and wit were as endearing as his advice, often reminding us to "stay out of trouble (or at least don't get caught)," a classic expression of his.

Kenneth's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will forever resonate in the lives of those he touched. He will be profoundly missed but eternally remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home. A service will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 5780 Mt. Moriah Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. Internment Powhatan Community Cemetery.
