HOFFMAN, Kenneth L., 88, of Powhatan, departed this life on July 24, 2017. Born in 1929 in Ottawa, Kansas, Kenneth graduated from Kansas University with a major in Physics. He was proud of his military and civilian service, working first as a Navy officer at the Bureau of Ordnance, and later as a civilian at the Naval Air Systems Command, making a real contribution to the defense of our country as an air-to-surface missile specialist. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to central Virginia, first residing for 14 years in Cumberland, where he was a member of the Ruritans, and Friends of the Library. In 2003, they moved to Powhatan. He was an avid ham radio operator and enjoyed woodworking, especially building and flying model sailplanes. Kenneth was a loving husband and is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Mary Kaye, and his little Lhasa Apso, "Penny"; sister, Evelyn Hamilton, of Pennsylvania, her children, Patricia, Richard, Robert, and Karen; brother, James Hoffman of Kansas and his children, Becky, Brian and eight great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, with a Christian Wake at 7 p.m. at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 2480 Batterson Road, Powhatan, and where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Powhatan Food Pantry, located at 2500 Batterson Road, Powhatan, VA 23139.
