Lila Mae McCoy

Following a brief illness, and in the company of relatives and hospice providers, Lila Mae Nicholas McCoy, age 89, died peacefully in her home of 25 years in Powhatan, Virginia on May 23, 2020. She is survived by her children: Nancy Looper of Rogers City, Michigan; Susan Ames Davidson, of Powhatan, Virginia; David Timothy McCoy (Robin) of Savannah, Georgia; Merwin Gene McCoy (Robin Ann) of Mary Esther, Florida; and Nicholas Jay McCoy (Evelyn) of Fresno, California. She was predeceased by her late husband Merwin Gene McCoy and two sons, Corey Allen and Michael. Additional grandchildren and surviving family members include Lila’s grandchildren. They are: Dale Looper, David Looper, Jan Kirkendoll and Julie Heinzel, Christopher Ames (Pete Conz), Shannon Gravitt, (Scott), Meredith McCoy (Jorge), Melissa Anders (Aaron), David McCoy, Michael McCoy, Erin McCoy, Katie Danielsen (Michael), Kelly McCoy-McKenney (Loren) and Corin McCoy-Barba (Abraham). A descendant of Jean Baptiste Lagimodiere and Josette Little Weasel Cree, Lila was born at Devils Lake, North Dakota on September 20, 1931 and was an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gideon Alcide Nicholas and Josephine Christine Villeneuve and was the last of their fourteen children to pass.
