Marie Barker

With heavy hearts and grateful spirits, the family of Marie Barker announces her passing on January 13, 2026, in Powhatan. Marie spent 91 beautiful years loving her family and serving her Lord.

Marie was the heart of her home and a steady source of strength and kindness. She is survived by her devoted husband, Walter Barker; her sister and brother; her son and daughter; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren who lovingly called her their own.

Even more dear to her heart was her service in the church, Marie faithfully served her community as an elementary school teacher, nurturing and encouraging generations of children for many years, where her patience and encouragement left a lasting mark on her students. She was a familiar and cherished presence - teaching Sunday school, helping with Vacation Bible School, and brought Scripture to life for countless children. She delighted in sharing Bible stories and teaching children about Jesus. Her faith was not only something she taught - it was something she lived daily.

Marie's life was marked by quiet faithfulness, deep love, and a servant's heart. She was well-loved in her community and will be sorely missed, but her legacy of faith and compassion will continue through the generations she so faithfully nurtured. Marie's life was a testimony of love, grace, and unwavering devotion. She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered by all who were blessed to know her.A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Holly Hills Baptist Church, 1659 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, VA 23139.
