Mary Alexander
Bodie
August 18, 1934 – May 6, 2026
Bodie, Mary Alexander, 91, made the journey to her heavenly home on May 6th, 2026. Mrs. Bodie was born in Richmond, V.A. in 1934 and grew up in Old Church located in Hanover County. She was the daughter of Robert Corbin Alexander, Sr. and Miriam Hawes Campbell. She graduated from Battlefield Park High School in 1952 followed by an 8-month secretarial course at Pan-American School. She was a proficient typist and stenographer. She worked as a secretary at V.P.I. in the Agricultural Department in Blacksburg, the State Health Department in Richmond, as well as the Ball-Martin Insurance Agency for many years in Chesterfield County. She also served as First Vice-President (1975), President (1976), and Chairman of Public Relations (1977) of the Woman’s Club of Powhatan County. She had an incredible love and talent for cooking and baking for her family and collected many recipes. It could also be said of her that there was no one who loved flowers more nor had a greener thumb. Wherever she went, there followed a cat or chirped a bird; her other love being the joy of animals.
Surviving are her sons, Paul (Heidi), Jim (Stephanie), and John; and her daughter Cheryl Hood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clyde Owen Bodie, Jr.; her granddaughter, Sarah Bodie; her brother, Robert Corbin Alexander, Jr.; her son-in-law, Mark Hood; and great-granddaughters Charlotte and Faith. She is survived by her sister, Judith Alexander Herrmann. She has six grandchildren (Graham (Audra), Grace (Ed), Joshua, Jessica, Raleigh (Lindsay), and Andrea); and seven great-grandchildren (Henry, George, Lydia, Max, Ozzy, Hazel, and Conner). Special friends are Joe Davis and Melissa Smith. A celebration of life will be held later with family and friends. Contributions can be made to the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 247, Powhatan, V.A. in her memory. Online condolences can be made at Bennettbardenfh.com.
