Mary Painter Holloway

Mary Painter Holloway of Powhatan, VA, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at the age of 78.

Mary lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and devotion to her family. She was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for those around her. Her home was always a place of comfort, laughter, and welcome.

Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who took great pride in her children and family.

She found joy in shopping, cooking, helping others, and church. Mary started out as a phone operator at Bell Atlantic, C&P Telephone Company, and retired from Verizon. Her guidance, wisdom, and love shaped the lives of all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her late parents, Frank Painter Sr., Vera Painter, husband, Herman Lee Holloway Sr., son, Herman Lee Holloway Jr., granddaughter Cassie Godsey, brothers, Mickey Painter, William Painter, and Larry Painter. She is survived by her children, William Stuart Godsey, Paul David Allen (Alicia Allen), Angie Michelle Adkins, Dorinda Lynne Sizemore (Clinton O'Neill), grandchildren, Kristen Godsey, Ashley Smith (Dan Smith), Lauren Arnett, Brandon Allen (Mackenzie Ruslander), Amanda Arnett (Caleb Carter), Taylor Allen, Brittany Layne (Derek Layne), Cheyenne Giles (Bryce Burkhalter) great grandchildren, Landon Hyde, Gracelyn Carter, Alaina Allen, Jameson Layne, Willow Mae Layne, Noah Carter, Damon Allen, sibling, Frank Stuart Painter Jr. (Carolyn), fur baby, Jaxson Holloway, and other family members who will cherish her memory forever.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 18th, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, VA 23139. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19th, at 11 am at Gospel Light Baptist Church, 2109 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA 23139.
