Oceania F. Jessup

December 24, 1947 — January 4, 2026

Oceania F. Jessup, lovingly known as Cenie, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 78. Born on December 24, 1947, in Powhatan, Virginia, she lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a heart devoted to serving others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Edward Forsythe and Myrtle Buisset Forsythe; beloved husband, William "Rixey" Jessup; their son, William Christian Jessup; and their cherished grandson, Robert Rixey Dupuis.

Cenie is survived by two devoted daughters: Lynn (Steve) Dupuis and Ann (Nick) Smith. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren-Rebecca (Bryson) Hood, Riley Smith, and Reed Smith-and her 2 great-grandchildren.
Cenie's life was a testament to compassion. She selflessly cared for her paralyzed husband, faithfully served her community as a member of the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, and lovingly raised her two daughters. Cenie had a true servant's heart and found joy in caring for everyone around her, whether through dog-sitting for friends or most especially being "Nanny" to her beloved grandchildren-a role she cherished above all others. In recent years, Cenie relocated to a small suburb outside of Birmingham, Alabama. There she embraced a new season of life with joy and purpose. She became an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbiana, discovered a passion for pottery, and spent meaningful time with those dearest to her. These moments reflected the essence of who she was-a woman who gave freely of herself and found happiness in connection.

Those who knew her were drawn to her warmth and kindness-qualities that made everyone feel seen and cherished. Her servant's heart guided every chapter of her journey, from her early years in Virginia to her later days in Alabama. Her life leaves behind a powerful legacy rooted in love, faith, and generosity. May the memory of Oceania "Cenie" Jessup bring comfort to all who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive friends 10 am to 11 am Saturday January 10, 2026 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where her service will follow at 11 am.
