Richard “Dickie” Alvin Barden, Sr., 90, of Powhatan, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Leon Barden, Sr. and Annie Berger Barden, and two sisters, Ann Waldrop and Donna Burkholder.
Dickie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy Lewis Barden. Known to many as Papa, he is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Donald) White, and sons Richard “Rick” (Evelyn) Barden, Jr. and Ron (Diana) Barden, six (6) grandchildren, six (6) great grandchildren, two (2) step-grandchildren and five (5) step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, David (Bobbie) Barden and sister, Nancy Davis along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He loved his family dearly and took great pride especially in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dickie was a member of Red Lane Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as a deacon for several years. He retired from Reynolds Metals in 1993 after 38 years of service. After retirement, he was a co-owner of the NAPA Auto Parts store in Powhatan with his son Rick for a few years.
The family would like to thank the home healthcare and hospice providers for their thoughtful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red Lane Baptist Church, 2095 Red Lane Road, Powhatan, VA 23139.
A memorial service will be held at Red Lane Baptist Church in Powhatan on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am prior to the service. Condolences may be made at bennettbardenfh.com .
