Stephen Derek Bolt

Stephen "Steve" Derek Bolt, 56, of Powhatan, passed away Monday, March 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born to James and Iva Bolt, December 9, 1966 in Lynchburg, VA. Growing up he was a strong athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Steve graduated from Monacan High School in 1985. He used his athletic prowess to attend and play football at the University of Akron. Upon graduating he enrolled at John Marshall School of Law at Cleveland State. He worked as a teacher in Greensville, VA before ultimately ending back at Monacan High School, where he spent 25 years teaching English and French, as well as coaching baseball, football, wrestling, and track & field. He was preceded in death by his father, James Bolt. Steve is survived by his wife, Christine Bolt; children, Genevieve, Garrett, Mitch and A.J.; mother, Iva Bolt; sister, Jimi Birkitt; brother, Brad Bolt (Sybil); nephews, Jeremy (Desma), Jesse (Kirstan); niece, Jamie, and numerous other family and friends. He loved his family and friends and wasn't afraid to let them know. He loved his job, his students, and coaching both at Monacan and his own kids. Steve loved as openly as he could and will be truly missed by all whom he loved and those who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Passion Community Church, Powhatan Campus. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Powhatan County Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box #10, Powhatan, VA 23139.
