Stephen Ashby Mann, age 78, went to join the family of God in heaven October 27, 2025. Born in Richmond, raised in Amelia, he called Powhatan home and Virginia Tech his college. He is survived by Patricia Mann, wife of 45 years, and children--Tracy Blackwell, Kristine Ford and Michael Ashby Mann: The family includes Sons-in-law, Dennis Ford and Jim Blackwell; Granddaughters, Ashly, Haley,and Lexi; Great Grandchildren, Harper, Jacob, Cas ,and Ellis.
He loved his cats ,and leaves behind his “ Princess”. As a lover of family heritage, he took pride in his Viking connections to the Isle of Man, and ties to the Scottish Gun Clan. In the insurance business, he was rated as Salesman of the year numerous times, sat on the Underwriter’s board of directors and was listed in Who’s Who in business.
Stephen is known for a variety of activities: among them- Marathon running, Motorcycle racing, and Misson work, especially Powhatan’s Beaumont Home for Boys . He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Group, and hosted a ride group, Sons of the South, that engaged in charitable functions. He was a founding member of the Powhatan Sons of Confederate Veterans Troop 1382 , serving a term as commander, and on state level as Aide-de-Camp in 1982. A Long time member of the Powhatan Masonic lodge, he served twice as Worshipful Master. He had an avid interest in many forms of martial arts with events and competition. From the age of 9, on Sundays, he would be found playing the organ gratis, for several Baptist Churches. Steve made the world a better place.
A visitation will be held Thursday November 6, 2025 at 6:00 pm with a Masonic service to start at 7:00 pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, VA 23139
