Stephen Francis O'Neil

Stephen “Steve” Francis O’Neil, of Powhatan, Virginia passed away on December 12th 2025 leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, humor, and a spirit that refused to take a single day for granted. A proud U.S. Army veteran Steve lived with a steadfast devotion to his country and those he cared for.

At the center of his world was his beloved wife, Christianna “Chris” O’Neil. Their bond was one built on true partnership, laughter and a love that only grew stronger through the years. Steve adored Chris openly and wholeheartedly, and their life together was one of his greatest joys.

Steve is also survived by his children and stepchildren - Shannon O’Neil(Kelly), Casey O’Neil(Amy), Sarah Stroud, Elizabeth Waring(Bob), John Morris(Summer), Sarah Morris and many grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, John O’Neil and Mary Lou O’Neil Boone, who held a special place in his heart.

Steve lived with a true zest for life. He embraced each day with a “live it while you can” spirit, much like the Bon Jovi song, “It’s My Life”. He didn’t worry about the future - he focused on the moment he was in, finding joy in simple pleasures, good friends and a good beverage in Key West with his beloved wife & friends. He had a gift for reminding others that life is meant to be lived, not rushed through.

He leaves behind memories with laughter, stories shared across countless gatherings and a lasting example of how to savor every moment. And, as Frank Sinatra would say – he damn sure did it his way!

The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Steve’s life on Thursday, December 18th from 2:00pm-6:00pm at the Powhatan Moose Lodge (4140 Old Buckingham Road Powhatan, VA). A private family service will be held at a later date.
