Wilbur W. Szillat, Jr., 80, of Powhatan, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2026, at the age of 80. He was born in Richmond and grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, where he met his wife, Barbara (Auel) in high school. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, living and working in New Jersey and Kansas before retiring to Powhatan. He was a faithful member of the New Apostolic Church congregation in Hopewell. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of nearly 59 years, and their son, Michael (Deborah). He is also survived by grandchildren Katherine (Samuel), Kevin (Amanda), Emily (Logan), Zachary (Natalie), Jonathan (Cara), Samuel, Benjamin, Liam, and Finn, and great-grandson Stephen.
The family will receive friends 6 pm to 8 pm Monday, at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy, where his service will be held 11 am Tuesday. Interment will follow in Powhatan Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the John Paul II Medical Research Institute to combat Parkinson's disease.
