It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of William "Billy" Brown, who peacefully departed this world on May 13, 2026, at the age of 80, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Surrounded by his loving family, Billy left behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering faith that will forever reside in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born on July 26, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, Billy was the cherished son of the late William "Bill" and Mildred Brown.
He proudly served his country in the Air Force, a testament to his enduring commitment to protect and serve. Billy's thirst for knowledge never waned, and in 1998, he graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), marking a significant milestone in his life's journey. He dedicated 34 years of his career as an electronics technician with Verizon.
For the past two decades, Billy was an active and beloved member of Fine Creek Baptist Church in Powhatan. His deep faith and dedication to service were evident in his role as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and his involvement in the church's homeless ministry, where he tirelessly worked to help those in need find shelter, hope, and faith. Prior to that, he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Chesterfield where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Before Parkinson's altered his physical capabilities, Billy found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, hiking in the woods around his house, and kayaking. Music was another of his passions; he was an accomplished musician who played both the guitar and the dulcimer. He also enjoyed painting.
He is survived by his beloved children, Amy, Jonathan, and Laurie (Jim); his dear sister, Joan; niece, Susan; nephew, Mark; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren Billy was preceded in death by his loving parents, William "Bill" and Mildred Brown, who undoubtedly welcomed him home with open arms.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the special nurses, therapists, and caregivers who provided care and companionship to Billy over the past two and a half years. Your compassion and dedication were a blessing to Billy and his family during this challenging time.
A visitation will be held Friday May 22, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in The Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, VA. A celebration of Billy's life will be held at Fine Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11:00 am, where friends and family will gather to honor a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Billy's memory to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson's Research or to Fine Creek Baptist Church.
Billy Brown will forever be remembered as a devoted father, a loving brother, and a steadfast friend. His legacy of laughter, love, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Billy. You were a blessing to us all.
